PCCW eNEWSLETTER
Fall 2005
WELCOME to the first edition of the PCCW eNewsletter, which is designed
to keep our members up-to-date with each other's jobs, travels,
families, activities, musings and anything else we want to share. We're
calling it the eNewsletter, but welcome suggestions for a nifty name,
maybe eNews?

FALL MEETINGS: In October and November, PCCW members will come together
in cities across America to celebrate their commitment to this
exceptional organization and Cornell University. Members are welcome to
attend any and every Fall Regional Meeting, so perhaps your personal or
business travel will provide you the opportunity to join up with others
outside of your hometown.
All the information on locations, dates and contacts can be found on the
PCCW website: http://pccw.alumni.cornell.edu/news/calendar.html.
Remember ... you can attend any or all of the above Fall meetings!
(Well, maybe not all, since some are on the same day.
) We hope many of you will attend at least one of the Fall Regional
Meetings, and you can tell us all about them at next spring's Annual
Meeting in Ithaca (March 30, 2006 - April 2, 2006).

COMMITTEE AND UNIVERSITY NEWS:
BYLAWS CHANGES. As PCCW has become a thriving force on campus and our
membership has grown over time, we have had to make some amendments to
the By Laws in order for us to continue to meet one of our missions,
which is to reunite Alumna with Cornell and have them be active in the
University. PCCW has matured and is now facing different challenges then
it did during its infancy years. The changes to the By Laws were set to
help us grow and prosper and continue to be a thriving force on campus.
Highlights of the amendments are establishing: Term limits (two,
four-year terms); Guidelines to define "Active" membership; Life time
invitation to the Annual Spring meeting and an Emerita status, which
will allow life time membership for certain "special" women. The term
limits will be phased in over the next four years, all PCCW members in
good standing as of July 1, 2005, will be renewed for two terms provided
that they remain active according to the guidelines. In order to help
the membership committee assess the candidacy for renewal, we have
created a self reporting form that utilizes a point scale based upon
certain PCCW and Cornell activities. Please reference the PCCW handbook
as it describes in detail the activities and points associated for
"Active" membership.
HURRICANE RESPONSE. Here's Cornell's response to the devastation caused
by Hurricane Katrina. Headline news is available at

LETTER FROM MARY ELLEN MILLER:
Dear PCCW Friends and Colleagues:
Thank you so much for your generous gifts to the President's Council of
Cornell Women during this past year. Your support continues to make a
significant difference to the opportunities of faculty, staff and
student women on campus, helping to fund projects that develop
leadership skills as well as address current concerns such as the under
representation of women in science and women's health issues.
You will be pleased to know that we have exceeded our PCCW fundraising
goal, receiving gifts from 58% of our membership, totaling $152,626. In
addition, 76% of our members have given over $3,500,000 to the
university, surely a cause for celebration!
On behalf of the members of the Development Committee, I would like to
thank you again for your thoughtful concern for women at Cornell.
I hope that you will continue to include PCCW and Cornell in your
philanthropy.
With appreciation,
Mary Ellen

UNIVERSITY RELATIONS COMMITTEE is chaired by Andrea Williams
(anwillia@msn.com), with Jaclyn Spear (jas82@cornell.edu) as co-chair,
both of whom welcomed Hunter Rawlings back to his position as Acting
President of the University by introducing themselves and asking him to
encourage participation in the Faculty Work/Life study. This study,
which is being spear-headed by Biddy Martin, was sent in September 2005.
Martha Coultrap (mcoultrap@emmetmarvin.com) is chairing the Inclusion
Report subcommittee; those who are interested can view the 2005
Inclusion Report at
http://www.sws.cornell.edu
/diversitycouncil/
and contact Martha if you wish to be involved in drafting the PCCW
response. Other activities of the University Relations Committee
include the formation of a Liaisons subcommittee (chair TBD) for Deans'
and Diversity Officer Liaisons which Andrea hopes to have finalized by
the end of September. In addition, the University Relations Committee
hopes to keep ties with Affinito-Stewart Grantees who are still at
Cornell by adding some a tea or some other activity to the Spring 2006
PCCW meeting.
