How to Become a Member

Invitation

PCCW membership is by invitation only. The process begins with a current member of PCCW or University staff nominating a prospective member. Nominations are reviewed by the PCCW Membership Committee and approved by the PCCW Steering Committee based on the selection criteria listed below. Each year, the names of selected nominees are proposed to the University President, who approves the candidates and extends an invitation to become a member of PCCW.

Selection Criteria

Prospective candidates for membership in the President's Council are evaluated on the following criteria:

  • An alumna who holds a degree from Cornell University;
  • A leader in her chosen field, one who has accomplished a high level of recognized success in her career or a vocational activities (other than activities related to Cornell);
  • An expressed interest in and concern for Cornell, its constituents and its public image;
  • A demonstrated commitment to strengthening the experience of women affiliated with Cornell, whether as students, staff, faculty, alumnae or friends;
  • A willingness to become an active Cornell volunteer, beginning with the responsibilities as a PCCW member; and
  • The breadth of diversity she affords the President's Council of Cornell Women.

In evaluating candidates for membership on PCCW, consideration shall be given to achieving a diversity of its membership and an approximate new member composition of:

    • 70% of the members with limited or no prior University experience in other alumni organizations;
    • 20% of the members with active University experience in other alumni organizations and activities; and
    • 10% of the members who were previous PCCW members and are returning under the provisions of Article V, Part B of the PCCW By Laws.

Nominations are not being requested for 2008 because of the large number of candidates for 2007 yet to be considered.

Term

All members shall serve a four-year term, renewable for another four years if they continue to fulfill the responsibilities outlined below. A member may resign at any time by providing written notice of resignation.
