Grants for 2008-2009
The PCCW Steering Committee approved leadership grants totaling $126,600 for a variety of projects to promote women faculty members and students at Cornell.
The grants, recommended by the Leadership Grants Review Committee, were:
- $50,000 to fund research grants for five women faculty members. Each will receive a $10,000 grant. The faculty members were selected to be junior faculty fellows in the Institute for Social Sciences during the 2008-09 academic year.
- $20,000 partial support for May 2009 Career Stage Retreats for 95 women faculty members to be sponsored by the CU-ADVANCE Center.
- $31,600 for follow-up individual coaching sessions and web-based subscriptions for 35 participants in the May 2008 leadership workshop for senior women. The work will be led by the Center for Creative Leadership, sponsored by the CU-ADVANCE Center.
- $10,000 to name two lockers in the Collyer Boathouse for women's crew members. As part of the grant, PCCW has asked that the lockers be designated PCCW Leadership lockers and assigned to team captains or other crew members recognized for their leadership in the sport.
- $10,000 to support an undergraduate woman PCCW-HRR (Hunter R. Rawlings) Presidential Research Scholar.
- $5,000 to support projects initiated by women students in the Cornell Public Service Center.
The money was part of a total of $230,836 available for grants awarded in March and earmarked for expenditure in 2008-09. The remaining amount of money--$104,236--will be added to the leadership grants endowment, bringing the total to $1,198,372.
The members of the Leadership Grants Review Committee are: Carolyn P. Landis, chair; Martha Coultrap; Toby Levine; Donna Regenstreif; Martha Reitman; Murem Sharpe; Renu Thomas; Laura Wilkinson, ex officio; and Andrea Gibbs, Cornell staff.
